Eamonn McGirr was born in Derry, Northern Ireland. He taught advanced Mathematics in Belfast before becoming a full-time Irish entertainer. With four chart successes under his belt (one of them ‘Up Went Nelson’ sitting in the number one slot for six weeks) he eventually came to America with his wife and daughter twenty years ago.
In January, 1996, Eamonn broke the World Record for Non-Stop Singing and sang for a total of 11 days 20 minutes. This record will undoubtedly stand for many a day. His efforts brought in thousands of dollars for the Center For Disability Services in Albany. It was not only featured constantly on local television, but also went national and international on the Today Show and Inside Edition.
Then tragedy struck. In November 1996, just over nine short months later after the World Record Eamonn himself became permanently disabled after a terrible fall and is now quadriplegic. After a long and courageous fight, Eamonn passed away on Monday, June 14th, 2004. However, his tremendous spirit lives on.
We do still have copies available of some of Eamonn’s CDs for sale: The Way Back and Different Yet the Same. Please feel free to email us at keepitirish@mail.com if you are interested in purchasing Eamonn’s music.
